    Head question

Ok i'm looking this winter to change a few things on the SS. I'm looking at several options of things under the hood. With that being said my engine has 241 casting heads are these heads worth porting or should I just look into buying aftermarket. I'm looking at doing a small cam swap. Honestly IDK much about all the different heads out there on these engines. please help.

    Thanks

LS6 casting heads (243) & 5.3 heads are very common. Porting your 241's would see a considerable difference, but you may be better off buying a cam/heads package. Aftermarket CNC'd heads would net better performance. According to what your budget is, your intentions, & future plans for the car.

if your not going to big on the cam you can get your 241's milled and ported and they will make good power but if you take then to a shop it will cost alot and probably be more than buying some good 5.3 heads from Texas speed.

there is someone on here who milled and ported his own 241s maybe he'll chime in

Well there sure is alot of aftermarket heads out there. I'm shooting for 400hp at the wheels and still be driveable. yea i want a slight choppy idle thats just a given. i'm looking at a torqer 2 cam. i just want all of this stuff to match up and work together. now the research begins. thoughts are welcome on the heads.

I went with the Livernois stage LS2 stage 2. Check them out. Nice heads for the money.

The LS1 Corvett crate motor that Chevy use to sell came with 241s and a 551 lift cam and was rated at 405hp.

    The vette LS1's were 350hp. The LS6's were the 405hp motor (243's, more cam & LS6 IM).

I love my Torquer V.2 Cam. I bought almost all my parts used, so I ended up going with a set of used 5.3L Heads (706 casting) that were already milled and ported. I'm running just shy of 12:1 compression.

i was thinking about doing that too. I was wondering about porting the stock heads too. I dont want to buy a set of heads cause im going to build a stroker later. I already have a cam and im putting the victor jr intake on this winter, and with it apart already i got tempted to pull the heads and port them.

241s with a good valve job and good springs and a torquer will make 400 rwhp .

I have 402rwhp/399 rwtq without having my heads done. My cam is a custom grind somewhat splitting the difference between the torquer v2 and 3, closer to the 3. I have cam (full kit, cam, pushrods, springs, new timing set), full exh, underdrive pullies, maf, lid, custom tune. This is all with a 2000 z28, and the not great stock intake. I figured I'd hold off on an intake and TB till I did heads, plus my injectors are basically maxed anyway. Idle is nice and choppy - I get compliments all the time. Granted, I will say I've lost a bit of around town drivability.

Something to think about, if you're putting down 400/400, the stock clutch won't handle that very well.

that cam would work well with any head. its fairly small but a considerable amount larger than your stocker or any zo6 cam. Id go for the 114 lsa and keep the idle fairly stock sounding for a sleeper, then a 100 shot for surprise...

the EPS cam 222/226 113lsa will make 390 rwhp with stock 241s and a good tune.a tr224 cam is just a little better then the TSP 224r.the WS6 store sells a patriot head/cam pkg for a good price.

I have a 6m and went with a Schnieder custom ground. I think 230/240 590 114 lsa. If you want actual numbers I can get them. With Kooks 1 7/8 LT's, 3inch true dual and dynomax bullets out back the car made 435 rwhp and 403 tq with a dead on tune. Block is stock and has 138000 miles on it

I have the Torquer 2 with stock ported and polished heads. Nice idle and really woke the car up. When i was researching heads and cam for my swap, the guys at TSP recommended the same Torquer 2 cam with the stage 2.5 heads.
