Head bolt problems
I purchased a set of ARP head bolts:
http://arp.carshopinc.com/product_in...69649/134-3609
I went to do a valve to piston clearance check and tried to bolt the head on slightly. There are three different length bolts in this kit. The shortest fit along the valley, the medium length I can only get to fit in the outer holes in the middle of the head, the other mid length ones fall all the way to the bottom of the hole, and the long ones go every where else but I cant get to bolt down all the way.
To clear up one matter the block has a casting number of 12550592 which is the 97-98 block. The holes are pretty much the same as my 01 block that I have.
Does anyone have any idea. If needed I can post some pictures.

You got the wrong series bolts...series 1 (old style) used 2 different lenght big bolts, series 2 (new style) uses all the same lenght big bolts. It depends on what year block you have

no they are the right set. I just had to cur an old bolt to be a thread chaser, also I was not aware there were only 4 medium bolts for the outer middle row holes. I got it figured out now with some help.
thanks

Installation tip: Make certain there is no remaining engine coolant (or any other fluids) in the bottom of the bolt holes -- blow then out good with compressed air. It is possible to crack a block tightening down a head bolt with fluid still in the hole.

and to add to Pajeff, make sure to use the lube when you put the bolts in.
I foundout about the two different bolt series when I got my new block, my new shiney ARP bolts with less than 1000 miles on them wouldn't fit.....well now I have ARP radiator support bolts on my project car lol

I purchased the arp ultra torque lube that they recommend. I will have to get some compressed cans of air or something. My compressor decided it didnt want to work no more.
