This is a discussion on GM Performance Hot Cam within the Internal Engine forums, part of the LSx Technical Help Section category; any certain brand of timing chain better than the other because trick flow has a pretty decent priced one...

The LS2 chain is nice and beefy compared to an LS1 chain and inexpensive. It is the same length as the LS1 chain so you can reuse your old cam gear if you don't wanna buy the whole timing set.

I got my LS2 timing set for 70 bucks shipped. It pretty cheap insurance. We are talking about the Timing here. No need to skimp.

You dont NEED the gears. But its timing. Kind of a big deal. At the very least, get the LS2 cam gear since that will come off anyway. Look up user Yank on Tech. He sells them for pretty cheap.
