Red- 2002 WS6
G5X3 cam question
Hi, new to the site so please keep the flaming to a dull roar. I recently picked up a 2002 ws6 with 32k on the clock. I want to do a few mods and from there pretty much leave it alone. The list is as follows..
1) LG G5X3 cam kit and tune after install
2) Kooks longtubes and Y
3) some exhaust that I have not picked out yet.
I have read that you can put the LG cam kit on a basically stock engine. For those here who have this cam how daily drivable is it and what are the quirks about having this much cam in a car. My wife will be driving it more than I will and it needs to be totally feasible for her to get into and not have to worry about anything. She has had 3 other formulas prior to this one so she is no stranger to these cars but she is not used to a modified one so what should she expect. I already for the most part know how it will be but I am sure you guys can explain it better.

I *LOVE* that cam but I wouldn't put it in my GF's daily. Much of the driveability will boil down to how well it is tuned. It is very streetable for a larger cam, but could get to be a chore for her to drive pretty quickly.
I tuned an 02 M6 ws6 with 55K on it, the same headers, g5x3 on a 114LSA, ORY and cutout, stock ls6 intake that came on the car and it made 409rwhp on a dynojet 224. Big numbers for the mods. I think it had a ported TB too, if that counts.

I did about 3 hours of searching and reading on here last night and what you said seems to be pretty close to what I gathered as well. I was also looking at the G5X2 cam but it does not seem to be much less of a cam as far as lift. As for the duration I dont know because it is not disclosed on the site. I would hope that it would be a little more driver friendly. As far as a tune it will be tuned by LG as they are pretty close to me and it is their cam, they should know how to tune it best one would think... I am now leaning more at the g5x2 if it is more streetable, but I cant find a lot of info on it.

Stay away from the tight LSAs if streetability matters

Might as well come out and say it now. I'm buying another WS6 soon. I also was going to buy the G5X3 cam. What specs would you recommend Frost? I will daily drive it.

Pick the cam after everything else, it makes more sense that way. Decide what you want to make before you build rather than get a random piece her and there. Define your goal first.

Yet another looking for a cam as well as heads (sorry, don't been to highjack). Frost, what would you recommend for a car that will be a daily driver?
So far the mods I plan to do once a acquire the car (looking at a 98 I'll probably end up getting) are:
ARH 1 7/8 headers and catless Y
Magnaflow catback
LSX 92mm intake
LSX 92mm bigmouth TB
LSX runners
bigger injectors (how big? i have 36# lying around)
roller rockers
150 or so shot of NO2
stand alone fuel system for it
cam ?
heads ?
