do i really need a tune for a new cam?

I want to find the best cam for a stock with basic bolt ons for an everyday driver and I really don't want to change my valve springs. is there a cam out there that I can get a good improvement with and not have to do this?

is a tune really necessary after doing a just a cam swap if i don't go to extreme on the cam?

    thanks guys

Lookup the GM Hot Cam, you can put that in without a vlave spring change but it is still highly recommended. why do you not want to change springs?

I would definately change the springs on any cam. I'm sure the GM "hot cam" reccommends at least Z06 valvesprings. Heck the stock Z06 cam came factory with those.

We picked up quite a bit of horsepower and torque just from custom tuning the engine with the stock cam, so yes, tuning is very necessary if you want to maximize your new cam's potential. Otherwise, why even bother swapping cams, at all....

You definently need to change the valve springs, that's day one stuff. If you're going to do a cam swap you can get good DD cams out there that still provide good power. I got mine from Thunder Racing. It's a 224/224 with 112 LSA. I drive it on the street all the time. I also changed the valve springs, I would reccomend adding a new oil pump and LS2 timing chain while your down there.

You can't get the same amount of tuning options that something like LS1edit will do. I'm pretty sure you can't mess with fuel trims and all that jazz. They're mostly for improving the performance of lightly modded cars.

Not much grey area there. The stock springs are not good for much more lift than the stock cam has. Any cam that will work with the stock springs in my opinion is not worth the money #1 and #2 my time to tear the engine apart to install it, just to gain 20-25 RWHP MAYBEE.

And like Street Lethal said, the stock tune is not optimum for even the stock cam. No way it's going to be spot on for anything else. To ge the most out of the car you will need at least a Mail Order Tune.

Yea you can..with some anyway. With the predator you can download custom tunes from diablosport through your home computer....then you can adjust the injector slope and PE to somewhat fine tune it. It's still a rough tune compared to hptuners but it's better then nothing..
