crank end play help
Can someone here help me with advice for my 283 SBC? Here's what I have. This is my 1st complete engine rebuild. I have the crank installed and all bearing clearances measured and caps torqued to spec. I hit the end of the crank a few times with a rubber mallet to set the thrust bearing. My crank end play, as measeured with a dial indictor off the front of the crank, is 0.005". The book says it should be 7-10 for a 350 but I can't find a spec for my 283. Should the spec be different? If not how do I open up the clearance so it isn't too tight?
