Is the head gasket supposed to block all of these coolant passages from the block to the head? Do I have the wrong head gasket?

Just changed my head gasket recently and those look correct to me. The gasket blocks off the sleeves around each piston and lets them circulate via the 4 passages on the perimeter of the gasket.

    If I remember right....

FRONT means 'front of motor,' not 'front facing.'

It says "FRONT" on both sides and if I was to install this head on the driver's side, the head gasket would be facing the correct direction.

I believe the MLS gaskets like the ones you have can go either way, it's the graphite gaskets that have to be specific to the head and the way they go on. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

i will correct you. look at the head gasket where it says 5.7L HO you'll see two coolant holes. now look where it says front. you'll see the holes are not there. put the gaskets in backwards and have an overheating problem.
