    Cleaning

Ok, very long-ass story. Someone broke into my car and stole basically the top part of my LT1 engine. They managed to take the intake manifold. I'm obviously going to replace it, but there is a shit load of debris and stuff in the lifter valley. My question is, what is the best way to clean and flush it out? Do/Should I have it cleaned professionally? Mind you, the engine is still in the car and I don't plan on pulling it out any time soon. Thanks guys.

First of, that sucks big time sorry to hear that. Next I would have it cleaned by a pro, who know what other damage and crap has ended up in the heads and bottom end, plus if have the cash you could get some work done on it for a little more power, a cam, work the heads, a balance will do wonders.

I'll have to call around. Plus, I'll have to have it towed to where ever and back again. But thanks.

Just little debris, like dirt and gasket pieces.

Yeah, I definately plan on changing the oil. And I can see all the big crap sitting on the lifter valley. So, you think just changing the oil will be good? I obvisouly haven't even started the car since all this shit happened. So none of it should below the surface in the system anywhere.

You might be able to pass just cleaning it yourself. Im pretty sure if you take it somewhere they will get clean the top debris, then run oil threw it a few times. Maybe they will do more, but its gonna cost you. I think you can do it yourself and save cash. BTW, sorry to hear that man, totally shitty.

Another said to run kerosine through it a few times, then some el cheapo oil, and that should flush it out pretty good. I'm planning on doing that, unless someone else has a better suggestion. But, for the most part, all the junk is still on the surface. But, they did cut my fuel lines and shit, so there is probably gasoline and coolant in there as well. Will the kerosine and oil take care of that?

hmmm, not sure about the kerosine. I wouldnt do that. I would take all the top matter off, doing a very good job. The flush it with autocrap oil quite a few times or so.

well that would clcean any return passages. I just thought of one more thing since you mentioned that they cut the fuel and coolant lines. PUll the plug to vent and/or drain the cylinders tp prevent a possible hydrolock. Rotate the engine a few time to open all the valaves to drain the intake ports, unbless you can rig a wet vac to suck them out.

My next day off, I plan on going to the parts store and getting most of the little things, like fuel lines and coolant hoses. I'll ask some of those guys what they think. I might call my mechanic too and see what he recommends. But the 'el cheapo' oil is definately a good route.

What should I use to clean the head and manifold surfaces? Carb cleaner? And should I use any gasket sealer with the install or are the intake manifold gaskets enough? And should I use any loctite on the manifold bolts?

Carb cleaner for the surface should be good. Dry gaskets should be fine but a little sealer never hurt. As fot he bolts I'm not sure. So far I only have first gen small block experiance.

They took a lot of shit.
    K&N FIPK II
    Granatelli MAF
    1LE Intake Elbow
    TB air foil
    Strut Tower Bar

    Factory parts:
    Throttle Body
    Intake Manifold
    PCM
    Alternator
    Fuel Injectors
    Fuel Rails
    Cut my fuel lines

So I have to buy al that shit and put it back together. There is also debris in my lifter valley, so I have to clean all that shit out. There's another thread on it somewhere, I think in the LT1 section. Its such fucking bullshit though.

Well, they did it in 2 nights. The first night, they took the TB all the way to the K&N. So the car was a sitting duck till I could get the parts in. Then, they came back the next week and swiped the rest of the shit.
