Change oil Light

So I'm up to 1100 miles on this oil change, the first since I've owned the car, and already I am getting the oil change light.
The light comes on when the car is first cranked up and goes off soon after. I am assuming this is the normal behavior.
I have no idea what oil was put in the car before me. Everything else on the car is in extremely good condition and there is evidence that the car was babied, so I am assuming that the oil was changed regularly.
The oil I put in was synthetic 5W30. I have searched around the other threads concerning oil... a lot of information for me to read through during finals week.
It was suggested that I have the wrong viscosity for my application and wanted your guy's opinion:

Like I said before the car is currently using Castrol Synthetic 5W30

Also, if I'm using the right oil (referencing the owner's manual), why would the light come on this soon?

Nothing wrong with the oil, you have to reset the system after an oil change. With the engine off put the ignition key in run and push the trip/oil reset button on the dash and hold for 12 seconds. The oil change light will flash and when its goes away your good to go.

My friend told me to try something similar involving the gas pedal and when that didn't work I just assumed that there was something up with the oil I put in it.

the other way is turn on just your accesories and pump the gas pedal three times. thats what i do whenver it comes on
