Can a cam be your only power mod?

I've looked here and ls1tech.com but have found nothing on it. Is that becasue no one has tried it or its the stupidest idea ever? I'm talking about stock exhaust, intake and every thing else power wise. Would the cam give a decent amount of power still or not? Does a cam need to 'breath'?Just wondering.

You could do it with a small cam (small duration and lift) but it is almost pointless as it will more than likely leave you wanting more and doing a cam swap is not the easiest thing done. Might as well get all the supporting mods and a decent size cam so perhaps you will only want to do it once. But then again, even then you may still want more.

I think Thunder Racings old man's cam would probably work well in an mostly stock engine (not counting valvetrain). Personally I don't see the point either as the cam only will probably put about as much power (may be a little less) than a bolt ons car with no cam.

Getting you a little cam would be like giving a starving man a cracker. It won't do anything but make you wish you would have done?

It can be done, not usually the first mod, Thunder Racing has the Cheatr cam , said to work well with stock exhaust. It does require upgraded springs and push rods because of aggressive ramp rate. Better than the Old Man cam, Good for 30-35 RWHP, I bet.

I would go for rear gears for a first mod, that you would really feel sotp change.
