    Cam & Tune-$1500???

Had my car dyno tuned Friday. To say the least, I'm disappointed. From the tuning aspect, I only gained 6 hp and 10 ft./lbs. Finished with 336hp and 346ft/lbs. I'm pissed and ordering a cam now. The tuner suggested the cam, says its a mid 230 cam with a 590's lift and a 112 lsa. choppy idle. Install and tune price is 1500 bucks. Thats springs, cam, other parts, etc. He also gave me a list of other things I could do to save labor money. Ported TB and underdrive pulley are the next two things he said I should do. Does the 1500 sound like a good price? He also suggested I put 4.10 gears in, for a mere $800.

sounds about right to me, maybe a few hundred high but a tune is 300, so your talking 1200 for the cam and install, buy the cam yourself and bring it to him so he doesnt charge you on top of what the cam costs. thats 336 RWHP after what mods tho? sounds like headers and exhaust to me. Also 6 hp from a tune is shit if youve never had a tune before.

I put headers on last week. On the first pull it made 330hp. After several pulls and cool downs, i ended up with 336hp in 95 degrees with 98% humidity. Drives good, but feel no power difference. Hell, I went to the track and ran faster with my damn manifolds. To hell with it, I'm going to get a cam.

well shit 98% humidity? lol, that killed you.

but yeah if you think theyll do a good job, parts, labor, and tune for $1500 isnt bad.

personally id send all your info to Frost and have him tune it.

I want to be right at 400 hp, with just a cam. What do you suggest? I looked at several texas speed cams. Thinkin bout doin the install myself and buy those tools necessary not to drop the lifters

$1500 sounds like a good deal to me. I paid about $1400 for parts and tune, and the tune was only $200 of that... and I installed it myself. So $1500 is a good price if you trust them.

Does that price include a new/ported oil pump and timing chain? If not you should really consider doing those while it is apart.

If you do it yourself, save your $$ and use 5/16 wooden dowels to hold the lifters (costs $3), works great. You DO however want to pony up for the speedinc spring compressor.

If you do the install yourself...

Wooden dowel (5/16) work great. If you are having to force them at all, your doing it wrong

Buy the Speed Inc (crane) spring compressor. Please. Save yourself.

A cam swap really, is not that hard. With the tooling. But 1500, is not a bad price at all. I might have went for that price when I did mine actually

I want to definitely do the timing chain and the oil pump. His price does not include that. Just cam, springs, rods, etc. I should be able to do cam, springs, retainers, locks, rods, oil pump, timing chain, and install myself for bout 1500. Probably can get the special tools too. I like to do my own work, but just payin money is easy. However, doin the install myself, I can get a lot more for the money. They guy actually offered me an 05 GTO, magnacharged, with a built 408 for my car and 4 grand. The GTO is nice, only has 40k on it. But they don't make the WS6 anymore...& thats my baby. lol

I put a cam just like what you mention and it is not very choppy.

My son put headers and 4.10 gear in his Camaro and it is almost to much for a daily driver. The big gear makes 55mph cruising at 2,500rpm. Be careful; you might not like that gear. Definitely can't drive to far or to fast.

Gotta be A4. M6 should be under 2k with 4.10 at 55mph. In 6th, at least.

    I have a 4.11 gear and M6. At 70MPH I am at 1800 RPM. At 80MPH I am at roughly 2000 RPM.

    Awesome!!!!!

Scroll through that thread and you will find a video of my car idling. Cam is a Torquer V2 without tune at the moment.

    232/234 595/598 112 LSA

Thats the specs. Love the lope......

Lingenfelter ported Oil pump was $105 shipped to the door. Good to 900hp and is $55 or so cheaper then a Ported LS6 oil pump.

If you have any questions, me and my buddy just did my H/C build so shits fresh in the mind.

Was that parts/labor/tuning? Or just labor/tuning?

Pricing will vary. I know a guy who installs cams for $375 in F-bodies and tunes them for $300.
