Cam Search
Hello members. I have done alot of searching and am looking for 410-420 rwh in an 01 ta with lt, exhaust and intake. I am searching for a cam and tune to give me that hp but also that is not too much for a dd. Do not care alot about peak hp but more so a useable powerband. Is it possible and what cam would be best. Thanks fellas.

look into a 228/228 or a 230 size cam. really anything over 230 for a DD is too much. if all else fails, call Comp, TR, or TSP and tell them what your goals are and if need be make you a custom grind cam. to reach your goal, you will need bolt-ons (ie:LT's, intake, TB, etc).

I know this'll bring in the faithful to argue, but I'll say it anyways. You're going to have a hard time hitting >400 Cam only. Throw a set of heads in the mix and you're there, but for a 400 RWHP Cam-Car, you'll need to be full bolt on with a medium cam, and a good tune. I believe than any cam can be a D.D. cam with the right tune, but tolerance is the key. I'd recommend a cam in the 228/230 neighborhood, and most importantly, lower your goals. Trust me, going to the dyno (or track) with high expectations is never fun. Go with reasonable and be satisfied, or go with low and be happy.

i agree it's the first thing to learn that you won't always get what you want. i have made it a point to steer clear of getting caught up in peak HP numbers and have built up my car to have the 'under the power curve'.
i think for arguements sake most people would actually agree w/you. my goal was 400rwhp and the only part I have left to install is my Ls6 intake that is sitting on my floor (heads will come once i do research, etc). I know I will fall short by about 10-15 rwhp, but having a 385-390rwhp car and that's nothing to balk at. sure if I stepped up to a 228 or a 230 i would be teasing w/that 400rwhp mark, but the 224 is a strong performer and it's a cam i am pleased with (for now... ).

I have a ls6 intake and long tubes on my 99SS now. (336rwhp on a mustang dyno) I would like to keep the car reliable. ? AFR trickflow ETs or ? with a 228 cam best bang for the buck.???Last edited by skar; 10-26-2006 at 05:22 AM.

with that setup plus TSP 228/228 .588/.588 112lsa, with a set of TSP PRC 5.3 stg 2.5 heads would definatley throw you over the 400 mark and with a good tune would be fine a DD. Right now Im sitting at 371rwhp with boltons, stock ls1 except for cam. Those heads I would say would sit me around the 400+ area plus you also have the LS6 intake maybe another 8-10rwhp with those heads. Here is website with combo price, this is with the heads loaded with double springs good to .650, choice of cam, and push rods.
