doing a cam you need to also do the supporting mods for the cam.
if you have a automatic trans, you need a stall in the 3000-3500rpm range, shift kit and oil cooler.
next are long tube headers with a off road pipe. if you dont have a catback, time to get the magnaflow or hooker exhausts.
now youll need to get a whole cam kit. a good daily driver set up is a 224/224-228/228 grinds with a 112 or 114 lsa. youll also need computer tuning so teh car will run right.
now youll need some nitto 555r tires at the very least. youll have 380-390 rear whell horsepower and total with installing parts and tuning, youre looking at about 4500 bucks.

he could get away without the tires, and exhuast, and stall..granted it wouldnt truely use the cam. but yea nhra is right. you really need to have headers and tune with the complete cam kit with it.

once you get headers... then the cam, everything will come alive and you will get great gains..with a tune. make sure you get headers and a cam..then a tune.

Don't put the carriage in front of the horse is the basic idea here. Cams FULL potential will not show unless you have headers and other supporting mods to go with.

id have to say that that statement is dead wrong...

it would be more acurate to say that the full potential will not be had without supporting mods. like HURLEY said.

there are cams out there that do better with a stock car., than modded car.
if you are a STICK car.... than a 222-228 duration cam with around .560-.580
lift, and a lsa of 112-114 will work just great! will also want a cam "install kit"
which should come with better springs, ti ret., pushrods, etc..... a cam kit will run you around $700. and can be installed in a weekand. now you CAN drive the car un-tuned but it will make more power and be smoother after a tune... thats why everyone will tell you to do the supporting mods FIRST....
headers/exhaust/intake....then cam and tune..... then 375-400rwhp can be in your future.!

    good luck....

Livernois Motorsports...I was there when the dyno test was done for GM High Performance...

BTW...stock intake. It was tuned by Dan (Millen) but that was it.

Typically their stage 1 Head/Cam package is good for 100-120 AT THE WHEELS (with a tune of course).

With that cam from thunder racing, what size rocker would you use?

Most cams use your stock rockers, so that isn't even a point of concern. I had a 224 cam, and I only kept it in the car for a few months. I think if you're gonna go that small, at least get it ground on LSK lobes on like a 110+4 LSA, so you'll have it making much more power. Toss it under a set of Livernois heads, and you're in there!

But yes, you need a better intake and headers to really get the most from your mods.

Huh? Cam alone will add 80 hp? The TR224? All by its lonesome?
