    Cam/Lifters

    Two Questions;

    Has anyone ever sent their cam off to get inspected/reground/polished? I'm to the point where I'm almost ready to put my engine back in and my cam had less than 3,000 miles on it with no visible damage (spring broke & dropped a valve - so most of the damage other than the broken spring was in the lower end). I will probably end up going new, but I just want to see what everyone's done.

    I did have ONE bad lifter. On a roller cam, would you replace just the one bad lifter or the entire set?

    I'm just trying to check out all my options right now.

    Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank you!!!!!!!

    Personally to me it is not worth it to have it checked out I would buy all new lifters and a new came just for peace of mind because I would hate to put it back in and it ruin my freshly rebuilt engine and have to do it all over again.

    This is one of those depends on the situation.

    It can't be as much as a new cam cost to check it out

    Absolutely new lifters. I strongly recommend BTR's SLR lifters. Cost more than LS7's but the quality is so worth it.

    I trust your opinion, for damn sure. I think I'm gonna call today and see how much it is to have it checked out. I was definitely planning on the lifters just because they're not a huge purchase. It kind of sucks because I want my car up and running before the end of April and I want to just install the new engine with the stock cam but the other part of me wants the big cam I've always had, lol I've waited this long, might as well put the cam in while it's out. BAH.

    I've been down since Nov 2012. I just got the block back into its home. Waiting on a new engine mount bolt from Summit because I stripped one during install last weekend. Believe me when I say this....as much as I wanted it back up and running it's better to get what you want done NOW vs later. You will always be thinking I should have done this while I had the chance. I wanted a 408 build with this block but got so impatient that I went ahead with my build. I can say no now that I still want a 408 build....even thinking of doing a FI build so many possiblilities

    You're probably right. They've sat long enough - might as well go ahead and do it while it's down!

    New cam and lifters for sure. The BTR do well. Have used several on ppls ride. I assume you already have upgraded springs.
