    cam and lifter problems found

It's on a 2001 ss camaro with 44,000 original miles. Number 5 cam lobe and lifter are mared and scuffed up and only on number 5. Do you think this could be a factory defect or oil troubles? I do use syntec full synthetic oil and change it at 3,000 mile intervals.

I am just wounder when i replace the cam and lifter's if this will hapen again on the new ones???

I'd replace the oil pump with a high volume pump too, sounds like you lost some oil pressure.

that def. can't hurt.. great upgrade, but it sounds like there's a lack of oil just to that centralized area. sounds like something in 5 could be blocked

oil pressure was and is at 60 psi. No problems there. It almost looks like a flaw in the casting, cause the cam lobe on number 5 does look pitted.

Sounds like a roller bit the dust. How are the needle bearings in the lifter??

Probably not going to roll very well now since trash has probably passed through it at the very least. I've lost a lifter before, and it will mar and pit the lobe as you describe.

Best bet is to replace all 16 with the new cam. No telling where all that trash has gone.

To add to what Firebird said, check your rockers really good to make sure none of them spit their bearings and they got down in the cam/ lifter area

Actually the lifter roller bearing is in good shape. Don't know how to add pics on here otherwise i would show you some pics. Maybe it was valve float?

Have you gotten into valve float, even before the rev limiter took affect??
