Cam/Heads/Stall
Ok I putting together and upgrade path for the Goat. I have a question. Which would be better and can it be done?
1. 3200 Stall, ls6 heads, Headers, Cai with a tune?
2. 3200 Stall, Cam, Headers, CAI and a tune?
My Problem is Lack of cash for Both Cam and heads installed.

lol love the avatar and to answer your question im pretty sure both can be done and i think that either way you go its going to be roughly the same hp by my guess unless you do a really aggressive cam but dont just go on my word im not an expert

Look in the For Sale sections here and on LS1Tech...I bought a set of CNC Ported 5.3L Heads for $300 and a cam for $200. You just have to look around and not be impatient.

option one sucks..
you are going to gain about 10rwhp max from a set of ls6 heads. You can gain 50 pretty easily on a cam alone setup. cam, headers, lid, tune, stall converter. You can not decide on what stall to get before you decide what cam you are getting. You're stall speed needs to be a few hundred RPMS under your power band. You can not just assume that the 3200 will be perfect. Yes on a stock car its great and it is generally a decent sized stall to get but if you get something in the high 230s duration you will probably want a 3600-3800 minimum on that stall or else you will experience so lag before jumpin into your powerband. It will be minimal but it will be there.
Cliff notes:
-Cam and stall need to be picked together. Any speed shop will help you with this task
-Heads without cam is almost pointless. Cam with stock heads still equals substantial power gains.

also LS1camino's option is a great one... be patient, find good heads for cheap, install all at one.

stall, headers, and cam. I think you'd be pretty happy with those results. You can always add heads later down the road. Keep in mind that you should do valve springs and pushrods on your current heads with a cam swap.

It sounds like you are paying a shop to do the work. Did I read too much into that? If so, do it yourself and save a a ton of green. I agree that option one kind of sucks. Option two is much better.
