    Question cam? a4 2k ta

I have a ws6 daily driver w/ 104k. I have a bad lifter knock and trans just went. So I am swooping the trans w/ an 02 a4 built one, built meaning "the beast" performance sunshell, raybestos clutches ,corvette servo, steel pump rings, teflon bushing and stronger 2-4 band and I am getting a 3200 Fuddle stall for it (starting w/ 3200 may go 3400 later). Also, I want to get rid of the knock so I was going to do scorpion rockers, time chain, oil pump, stall, tune, thermo 160, and a water pump with a Texas speed 228/114lsa cam pckg. Basically top end replacement. Does this sound good??

    Keeping in mind:
I don’t want anything too big and I want to keep some mpg, I have a lead foot as it is and get 200-220 for 12.5gallons with my current mods: lt headers, ls6intake, pp tb, slp lid/maf, slp lm.

    Please give advice…good setup?
#148,LS6 intake, pp tb, SLP Lid, SLP maf, OBX LT into Y, Hooker, 4K Circle D Stall, 3.73 richmond gears, Performabuilt Lvl 2, tranny cooler, 228 texas with supporting mods and tune by Frost, Dyno: 365rwhp & 343rwtq

given the fact that you daily drive the car, I think that is an excellent cam. Personally I'd look to more of a 3600-3800rmp stall, but you will be fine with what you have picked.

We will have to get a block of wood for the bottom of the gas pedal when you drive during the week to keep you from pushing it down so far

    Question

as far as brands and deals go...are these good
Mountianperformanceonline.com for scorpion perf. 1.7 sbc ls1 rocker arms at $379.19
    Texasspeed.com cam kit 228 114lsa for $699.99
    Texasspeed.com Time chain for $118
    Ws6store.com oil pump $92
    Fuddleracing.com 3200 hp stall $675
    Tune by lsxtune.com Steve Williams
    Advanced- thermo 160 $19
    Thunderracing.com water pump $470

Ship will total around $50 for ups ground

I already have cooler on way and trans at house. How long can I wait for sfc, torque arm, drive safety loop, panhard bar…suspension stuff basically…

why change rocker arms? We already have roller tipped rockers, and the extra rollers are only worth a VERY VERY small gain for that $400... unless you are worried about wear on your OEM pieces

an LS2 chain is more affordable

I agree with Frost....again. You'll love that cam. Same cam I got with PRC heads. Works really well on an a4 car. I have a 3500 stall and personally wouldn't go lower than that but a 32 or 3400 will work.
Do this, shop around and get your prices then call ts on the phone and get a packaged price for everything.......I bet they beat your price. They'll cut you a deal if you buy everything though them and do it on the phone and not through the site.
I would personally swap out those lifters and water pump for sfc's and lower control arms with relocation brackets.

The LS7 lifters will work fine with your build and are only $110. If you have 104k on the motor, yes, go ahead and replace the whole timing set. Anything with over 100k you will want to replace the old pieces with new pieces because of the wear.

Bottom end should be fine up to 500 hp. If your planning on getting a shortblock later on then I would just wait till this one goes out, but you'll still have quite a bit of life out of the current one. OEM rockers are fine with the milder cam like yours. LS7 lifters will work fine. Others are mainly for racing applications like the cadillac lifters or h-bar lifters.

Personally with the cover clearance issues of the double roller chains, I'd keep my stock cam and crank gear and run an LS2 chain.

I wouldn't change the bottom end unless it was needed or I was going bigger personally...

I would just buy an LS2 chain ~$40, I think that's what Frost is saying also. Instead of getting the whole set just buy the chain, unless it looks worn out which I doubt it will.

Yeah I didn't mean stock camshaft, sorry, I meant stock cam and crank [timing] gears. The gears are usually just fine, the concern is stretch in the chain.
