Best bang for buck and easiest way to 500hp is a stout Head and Cam package with some N2O. Don't even consider going boosted if your relying on your Basic training cash. It will cost plenty more than that. Go with a nicely priced wet kit. Just add the fuel pump and injectors and some other small upgrades along with it. Don't forget some Long Tube headers too.

I always wonder why a HP number like 500 is selected. How many people really drive 500 hp street cars? Take the build in steps. For every mod you make there is a trade off.

A lot of people drive 500 hp street cars. Ask a M5 driver.
I'de say heads and cam w a good wet plate kit. Definitely bigger injectors if you plan to go to 500 hp.

Why not start with Procharger and some ARP head bolts? Then build up and strengthen in steps.
They are paying 40K for new enlistees in critical skills. More than I got in my entire career. Build a great motor with that.

Thinking about it, you might want to start with a whole new crate engine. In the long run that might be cheaper. Forget what I said previously, Procharging an older engine with an unknown history could turn out badly.
Browsing on EBay, I saw a rebuilt LS1 that claims makes to 425 hp. You might want to look. It is out of a 2000 Camaro.
Current bid is $980 with one day to go.Last edited by lonewolf37; 10-21-2007 at 08:00 PM.
