Apparently, yes. Most will say you can get similar performance with Patriot at half the price.

Well, I found heads/cam packages on the texas speed website..

    http://texas-speed.com/shop/category...MID=1&catid=47

Are one of these what I want? Or should I get the 224 / heads elsewhere?

Texas Speeds PRC heads are the best budget heads out there imo. Go with the PRC 5.3 heads. Call Texas Speed and let them recommend either 1.5, 2.5, head gasket thickness, etc, depending on which cam you choose.

I would. Not saying it works for everyone, but it worked for me. Then again, i know what the hell i'm doing under a hood. Others THINK they know, but when you've been doing this all of your life, it comes kinda easy.

Looking at a heads/cam package right now from Texas Speed..

    http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=203&catid=47

They give you the options to include a timing chain, gasket kit, and oil pump..

I would need a new timing chain and oil pump right? Not sure what a gasket kit is..

I didn't change the timing chain or the oil pump. If your car is a 98 the oil pump may be a good idea tho. Cam swap gasket kit consists of the timing cover gasket, two water pump gaskets, front main seal, new crank pulley bolt, and maybe valve cover gaskets. All are necesary except the valve cover gaskets, they're reusable. A head/cam swap gasket kit would include GM head gaskets but most use Cometic gaskets, I would.

    Good kit

I have an 99 Trans Am
    SLP Air Lid/SLP LT Headers/SLP Y-Pipe/Flowmaster Catback
CenterForce Dual Fiction Clutch/3.73 Gears/Hurst Short Shifter
Free Mods/& a good Dyno Tune
    333rwhp/345rwqt

This is my DD car I did my research and this setup looks to be the best for DD.
Patriot Performance LS6 Head, Cam & Roller Rocker Arm Kit 59cc Stage II
LS6 style with 2.02"/1.57" with 59cc combustion chambers. These will yield an approx. 11-1 compression ratio on a LS1 motor. The cam included is our 226/226 .585"/.585" 112.
This set will put me between 400-440 rwhp depending on how good the tune will be.

You don't even turn a wrench, yet you are an expert on these engines? LMAO...I would never pay anyone to work on my car. I do it all myself and I also do most of my friends' work.

He can call himself whatever he wants. Lay off.

You're not creating a great image for yourself imo. You trash talk people until a Mod tells you to stop (ie: The Firebird vs Vette Thread). So, I'm saving a mod the trouble...stop please.

Who put your quarter in? I think you need to re-read this thread. Calico is a troll that knows nothing about cars and offers no usefull information on this board. NHRA's been around here forever and helped alot of people.

Well fellas... back to topic shall we?

If I go with a 224 is thunder racing the way to go, or is there something better to consider like comp or crane cams?

Also for a 224 what else am I gonna need? dual or single springs? gaskets, puchrods, retainers, timing chain, oil pump, whats needed? Its a 2002 with 50,000 miles

Also what kind of gains can be expected with a TR224 at 114 lsa?

I went with the Thunder Racing 224 cam package w/single Comp 918 springs. Titanium retainers aren't necesary but will lighten up the valvetrain. Texas Speed has similar packages as well.
