A buddy of mine is running the 1.8 roller rockers from SLP and his performance increase is definatly noticeable on the top end.

why? because of all those claims about not using 1.8 on aggressive lobes? so long as you have piston to valve clearance and proper spring control, no problems will be had.

at what kind of lift would that start to be a problem for piston to valve with the 1.8? or does it have to do with duration...

    p.s. im stupid.

sorry for the highjack-spaz, i have no idea how to answer your question. i am sorry and i wish i did. i too have been pondering about the scorpion rockers, they look pretty bad ass. i want em-in red!

piston to valve clearance has more to do with duration and ramp rate versus lift.

anytime. it's one of the very few sponsor type sites that have that kind of info readily available.

thats pretty true. not alot of them actually explain anything..its all product showcase, which is neither good nor bad, just how it is.

i did just read that 1.8 rockers werent recommended by thunder racing though as i was looking at the cheater cam, which is about the wackiest duration ive seen.....

any ideas why they say to steer clear of the 1.8s most of the time?

got a friend of mine with that cam. it's designed for stock exhaust manifolds, hence the large amount of exhaust duration.

they use a really aggressive ramp on some of their cams. for awhile, there weren't any springs and lifters that could handle the added ramp rate. at least that's the reasoning behind it that i can surmise. yet, people will tell you just to grind it into the cam. i ask, what's the difference? don't really get a useful answer. whether you do it at the cam, or at the rocker, the valve will move the same.

here's my train of thought about using higher ratio rockers. i've bounced it off of a couple people smarter than me, and they seem to agree.

from the cam, you have 4 things the valve spring has to control. the lifter, pushrod, rocker, and the valve itself. using the 'just grind it into the cam' idea will speed up all of those objects. the valve spring doesn't only control the valve, it also has to keep the lifter from 'lofting' off the cam too much and make everything do a 180* direction change. by changing it at the rocker, you haven't changed the speed of the lifter, pushrod or rocker. you only changed it at the valve. the valve spring is doing less work, for the same amount of movement.

also, by going to a larger ratio rocker, it opens the valve easier. after all, it is nothing more than a lever. the downside to using a higher ratio rocker is that it does put more stress on the lifter. i've never had a lifter fail from the rockers.

For best results and responses to your question. Try posting a new thread in the appropriate section. That way your (?) will have a better chance of getting more views than a thread that is a few years old..
