Question AFR heads VS. Ported and beefed up stock heads.

i need the pros and cons for each decision such as to just buy the new $2300 AFR heads or just port and beef up stock heads.

I think TrickFlow has the best flowing LS head. I could be wrong, but I think they give more piston to valve clearence, because they are 13 degree I think. Not trying to say any thing bad about AFR.

Those NUMBERS are great. No doubt. If you can afford them.
Texas Speed and many other places offer more cost effective factory heads that flow comparible to your AFR. Especialy for the price.
If you are going to build a high reving, large cubic inch, or even just a high compresion, [12.5 or higher engine then you should probably look at after market heads. Or if you just have money to spend. The factory heads flow awsome for what they are, especialy after CNC.
15 degree LS1/LS6 and any other cathedral port head will experience the same increase in flow that your AFR did, but the LS6 and equivelents will out flow your AFR head above 500 on the intake.
Trick Flows are 13.5 degree and should create more velocity and flow better yet
LS7 and the C5R are 12.0 degree. The LS7 are 370cfm from GM. Texas Speed sells a set that are CNC and flow over 415cfm for under $2000.00
370cfm to 415cfm FACTORY head but CNC

So has anyone answered the question?

I would also like to know if anyone has any good info on this topic.
I was looking at the Pat. Perf. stage 3's vs TFS 220's on a LS2. More interested in actuall HP/TQ #'s than flow numbers. I would be doing a cam to match at the same time.

No need to spend lots of money on after market head unless you just can. Factory GM heads CNC for these engines, will compare with all 15 degree after market castings. The numbers are not much different. Change valve angle from 15 degrees, stock compared to 13.5 with TrickFlow, witch unshrouds the valve and will increase velocity, and flow to and from the combustion chamber
