you can't, really. you can remove the valve cover and see if there are different valve springs.

    Without taking what apart??

The intake and heads can stay on during a cam swap if that is what you are talking about.

you can't, really. you can pull the valve covers off and see if there are aftermarket springs on them. even then, comp cams makes beehive springs, so they'll look just like stock.

Good luck with the plugs those things suck. Have been there and done that many times take your time and don't let anyone help you that will get overzealous with the plugs. My father broke the insulator on my number 8 plug but not bad enough that you would notice it. In fact I could tell it would occasionally miss but not enough misfires to pop the code. So after pulling all of the plugs back out and looking at number 8 I could see it barely cracked. So after that incident I took my dads wrenches from him. LOL

Not all cams are choppy. It matters how aggressive the grind is. A mild enough cam you could listen to and not tell a difference from a stock one idling right next to it.

NGK TR6 plugs here. Takes about an hour to change those.
Stock coils. Don't have a need for aftermarket ones.
