98 A4 2.73 cam recommendation.
ok this q is for the A4 ls1 preferly the 98's with 2.73's I want to know what dd yall have, I was going to go with the tr224 112lsa but now I want something better, maybe bigger, I might port the heads so i want a cam that would give me all around power. Also I want that lopey idle.

With the cam, I would recommend better gears and a matching stall.
Is your car a daily driver? If you want something bigger, then get something bigger. Get a 228 or 232 cam.

wow.. you managed to snatch the words right off my keyboard. hmm I guess my post is useless now lol.
he is definatly right though, having an auto you will NEED a stall to compliment your cam especially if you are wanting to go much above a 224.

My car is a dd but I hear that with a good tune they can be dd, I'm going to get a stall for sure, I'm not sure if to keep my 2.73's since i dont want to lose much mpg but if i have to I will, and also I have stock 98 heads but hopefully I can get them ported.

Most say 224 is ideal for DD cars, but I say push the enevlope a little and get a 228. It basically comes down to whatever you want, its your car.

black- 2000 nhra edition formula
comp cams 224/224 581/581 112/112.
i gained 30 rwhp with above cam, only mine has a 114 lsa.
if you dont have headers, you will need them and a stall is a must.
if you worry about gas mpg, dont mod it.2000 nhra edition formula
a few bolt ons, 379 rwhp

You didn't say if you have to pass smog imspection or not--But if you do like in Calif--the biggest you can go is about 220-224 @ 114-Mine is a 221 and it passed OK--Hindsight I would have gone bigger to a 224--If no smog then all the recommendations above -I agree with---228--230 @ 112-114 get a tune and you won't have any daily driver issues

You are going to want to step up to at least some 3.23's if you want the car to move exceptionally well, and you should expect to lose some MPG once you go into it. Making power always has that effect. You'll need a good stall converter and a transmission cooler to keep that 4L60 moving. From your location you appear to be in California, which makes things a bit more difficult due to the testing that your car goes through. Perhaps some of the more seasoned CA guys would be able to help. I do know that the tune needs to be done very well in order to keep the Emissions Police off your ass.
Good luck.2000 Pontiac Trans Am

I stay at Irving Tx, so I could care less about inspection, my car already wont pass inspection since last year since i got gutted cats. I'm leaning towards the tsp228R cam, so what do yall think, or do yall know better, I'm tryan to run 11's

Okay, so I would tell you to look at doing some 3.42's, a stall converter, a Torquer v.3, some PRC 5.3L Stage 2.5's, and an LS6 intake. That should make for an awesome street car that could easily pull an 11 second timeslip.
Others will inevitably come along and give you their thoughts, free of charge. Some might say that mine are wrong, however these are my thoughts ergo they are right to me. Your results may vary.

In response to your original post, you can have a lopey idle with your stock cam. It's just a matter of altering VE's. If you decide to port the stock heads, be sure to have them milled appropriately to provide for desired dynamic compression, for whatever cam you decide on....
