Why do you think gm made the ls9 because the cylinder walls are to thin, and doesn't hold up very well to lots of boost.

Go with a ls2 402 or 408 just my opinion and you can boost that block later on down the road if you wish to do so.

lsx is an Iron block it holds up to 2k hp I don't see a problem with the build mastmotorsports makes supercharged ls7's with Iron blocks. I wouldn't mind 402/408 with ls3 heads maybe a 23x/23x cam and just have a mild car but I think with a few g's more I can get better.

I always LOL at those who say dyno numbers meant shit. That's the biggest load of bs I've ever heard. Now if you are a track nut then sure aiming for an et is a bright idea.

Here's the important fact. Horsepower DOES matter. It's how you get it to the ground that impacts your e.t.

There will always be a Morron with 500rwhp with the wrong gears an suspension and tire that will run 13.0s. Doesn't mean his hp means jack. It's means he will probably kick your ass in the highway in a roll on.

Take 2 cara for example. 2 brand new 2002 camaro ss' off the dealer lot. Both run identical 13.0 @ 107 . One is red and one is blue. The blue car puts headers on and a tune. They both line up for a race . Guess who's gonna pull who? The blue car then does a cam and intake and heads. Guess who's gonna win ? Of course the blue car. (unless rolling thunderz in Canada did the work which means the car will grenade).
So wait a minute, horsepower means jack!! Of course this means the red car will win every time eh?

Seriously people need to educate themselves on engine performance before making statements like that.

Anyhow back on topic. To the op: if you are looking for a driver go stroker all the way you can get the power with a milder cam and make it much more streetable.

The ls7 is an aluminum block, not unless they are making it cast iron but you would love a ls2 402 cause he can hold the boost and is still aluminum which means it's lighter.

The great thing about the LS motors is that any one of them can make great power. There are many ways as you can see by the different responses. Just be real about what you want, don't worry about the numbers as much as what you can afford and setting it up for what you want. I have one beater with an LS1 with 151,000 miles with bolt-ons. I don't have any idea how much power it makes but it runs away from ninety percent of whats on the road. The other is a fresh "LSX" 427 with 9.5:1 mild cam. Dyno sheet shows that it makes 300hp/3500rpm then climbs to 560hp/6000. Goes thru a turbo 400 and a Moser M9 w/3.70:1. and it has two "NX" systems, one single fog and direct fogger. I have no idea how much hp gets to the wheels or how streetable it will be but if it don't feel right on the road it may cost me extra $$ to get it right. So start with the best YOU can afford and then build on.

Are you going to build the long block yourself or farm out the job to a reputable builder?

Texas speed is close by so i might go with them. Mastmotors has a turnkey for 18k I need a harness mine caught on fire. I have some gauges not working and maf too. My gas mileage sucks. So I am not sure. If I go TExas speed I guess I'll see if they can build me a turnkey with ecm balancer and stuff

If you go a larger custom grind cam in the 230 range, you will/can easily be in the 460-475+rwhp range.

On my stock ls1 I wanted to get to get 62CC prc 227 heads with a 228/232. But figured I might as well go big $4k for head cam oilpump tune and instalation I should just get a short block. So it's complicated.

They have several different versions. The fact that they are pump gas motors and have and have a warranty goes a long way. Who else will warranty a motor that will be raced or run street hard. They dyno verify the power (breakin) so you get a printout of the dyno pull. Granted it will be different at the wheels but its run-in and warrantied. You dont have to worry about initial startup, you have an idea of power output and you are covered. They have packages but will sell you what you want.
