    Question 5.3 Chevy Overhaul

    Hello everyone!
I am brand spankin new to this forum, and I have heard that this is an excellent place to receive info on what I would like to accomplish.
I have a 2009 Silverado with a 5.3. I have had this truck since it had 3 miles on it, and want to overhaul the engine. I have been doing a lot of reading lately and it seems that replacing the stock valve train seems to be a pretty good option to persue.
So, many questions here. I have a couple friends who will be helping me on the project who are very adept mechanically. But my question to you all is how far will I have to go to make 350-400 rwhp out of this truck. Right now I am not concerned so much with price. I am just hoping to pick some of the vast knowledge that resides on this forum.
    Thanks
    Buck

    Welcome to the site!

Is there an issue with the motor, or are you simply looking to up the power?

I have a 5.3 in our '07 Suburban that is running very strong at 94,000 miles.

    Hey Jeff
Thanks for the response. The engine is fine. It will soon need a new water pump and belts, but that is minor. I am simply looking to give the engine a complete overhaul to keep it performing as it should for a long time. I decided that in doing this, I might as well bump it up and let it run to the fullest of its abilities. So, this project has been born in my mind and now I am into the research phase of it.

Honestly, unless you are having issues I would leave the engine alone. These things generally go 200,000 with little or no issues.

You're not too far at all -- come join us at Beaver Springs Dragway next summer and the GM Carlisle event in June!
