Sorry, but I am not a fan of huge cam numbers. Peak power isn't everything.

    I agree 100%.

But...the average person running that cam isn't running what those Top 10 cars are.
I never said those cams don't make great dyno numbers or CAN'T make great ET's. But there is a TON more than just the cam that needs to be done to see those ET's.

I run consistant 11.90's with my cam only TRex car. I'm doing it through a stock 98 intake and heads to.

    Hows the TRex with spray?

*edit - eh, scratch that I think that cam is probably too rowdy for my liking. I want my wife to still drive the car from time to time!

It's not really that bad if tuned correctly. I was driving it 150 miles each way to the Grove and back.

Why doesn't he get a mild to big cam and then port the ls1 heads put 2.055 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves and mill the sucker .030 and he should be well over 400 plus a lot cheaper!

Hows pulling the heads, new valves, head gaskets etc., cheaper than a cam only car?

i already listed my cam specs in the first post...and am thinkin about getting some aftermarket heads ...but i need about another 70 ft lbs and atleast another 30-40 hp...right now i am at 380 rwhp/350 tq..

will be a once a week daily drive w/ track time...

i would love to get 430 hp and over 400 ft at the ground ...i am not demanding peak dyno numbers..you dont race on a dyno..but i want to acheive those numbers...i know that there are cars out there w/ cam only set ups...making numbers like that...

if you just do some radical valves and a nice port job on the intake and exhaust and add some bigger valves to the ls1 heads and you be well over 400 and are you going to do nitrous... if no mill your head .030 and you will have 10.9 to 1 comp or if you wanna go radical and will be using race gas for the track... mill the head .060 and you will have about 11.6 to 1 comp... you will be WELL over 425 its been proven i can give you flow bench numbers if you want me to scan my book

Like I said earlier you can do it cam only but will need a big ass cam and a FAST 90/90 don't hurt either.

Not for nothin, but I've got pretty similar mods to what you listed in your first post, and I made 402hp/397 tq cam only. My cam is a good deal bigger than yours. Car still has very nice street manners, and the STOCK ls1 intake and t/b. The guy that put my setup together did the same thing on a car with an ls6 intake and it made an extra ~25hp/~10tq, so with a ported 90/90 (or 92/92) setup you'd probably be right there in the 430/410 range you want.

I don't feel like posting up my mods and stuff since there is already another thread out for it. Search for a thread started by me called "So it Begins..."

Also, take everything you see written here with a a truckload of salt. A lot of the posts you see on here are people who don't have any first hand exp. A lot of people called BS on my numbers, but Frost, one of our sponsors, has tuned (much more radical) engines built by the guy who did my setup and can vouch for his abilities.

As "what cam should I use" threads go, this one is pretty clean. Look at some of the "what cam" or "what heads" threads that are like 5-6 pages long and you'll see a lot of posts by people who've never run the equipment.
