Tripleb45's Firebird 383 Stroker build log

Ok I will put pics and vids in here from now on to cut down on the multiple threads. Now on to the build.

I actually started off with a crappy black running 1994 Camaro I bought on CL for 650 bucks.

A week later I bought another 1996 roller Camaro for 500 bucks.

My original plan was to do a basic V6 motor swap. After going online to forums I was motivated to do a V8 swap. I thought about doing an LS1 but the engine by itself was about 3500 bucks and from my understanding an LS1 is very limited in what you can do in the mod department, so I looked at an LT1 swap. That motor was about 2000 bucks. After a log of pricing around and did not like the price so I decided to sell both cars.

You think an LT1 is more mod friendly than an LS1?

yes I do, but I am not a Ls1 knocker, if I had the money I would have one also, but I just figure an LT1 is better on superchargers and such.

With an LS1 you're starting out w/ 70hp over an LT1 so I'm not sure why you think that. Whether you do internal mods like heads/cam or forced induction you're going to see better results out of an LS1.

To the OP nice to see some progress.. love when old iron gets new life..
I'm curious as to how many LT1s with a stock bottom end have hit 500rwhp naturally aspirated or gone 9's NA on their SBE?

500 flywheel and 500 rear wheel hp is a big difference and one in which you provided no evidence of an LT1 making. Also no evidence of an LT1 running 9s NA on the stock bottom end. Both have been done in an LS1.

You can say whatever you'd like but the results speak for themselves. LS1>LT1 just like LS2>LS1 and LS3>LS2....so on and so forth.

As technology improves so does performance...look at the C7 vette that has a 5.5L motor that makes 450hp.

This has gotten heated. I will not go on record saying stock LT1 is equal to a stock LS1 because a stock LS1 will out run a LT1 at higher rpms and in about 3+ gears, but a stock LT1 will get off the line faster and for about 2 gears will be in front of the LS1 from what I have seen. I have another vid I am uploading in a few

Dude are you serious? Two of the videos you posted say 500hp not 500rwhp and one guy puts up 500rwhp and only runs 127-128mph in the 1/4? I call BS on him having 500rwhp. My car runs 124-125mph in the quarter w/ 410rwhp. So he only runs 2-3 more mph than me w/ 90 more rwhp...uh no. Then he compares his highway run vs a sport bike and then a cobra racing a different bike w/ different rider? Wow that was pointless. Smittro weren't you just harping on how cheaply LT1's could be made to go fast then you bring up a build like this..put together w/ junk yard parts for a few hundred bucks I'm sure....talk about contradictory. OP...I haven't seen a stock LS1 vs LT1 so you may be right about the low end aspect. All it boils down to is what you want and can afford. Here's a list of some LS1 cam only who run as fast or faster than this fully built supposedly "500rwhp" that Smittro posted. See for yourself who's posting b.s on youtube and who's actually running the number.

Oh and a good buddy of mine has a full bolt on LT1 and makes 300rwhp through a 6-speed and 10 bolt so I'm dying to know how a ported stock head car and aftermarket cam made an additional 200rwhp.
