Dude, its going to be daylight and dark differnce between those two bikes. The only thing that can help make that bike quicker would be changing to chain and sprockets, and adding a few bolt-on parts. (jet kit/aftermarket pipe ect...)

    have you ridden before?
I would probably put a nnew full- pipe on it, and change the sprockets and chain like Pewter said.
    btw .. Is that a 1990 model?

I ride,I race dirt and street bikes. Please be carefull that bike stock is gonna be more than most can handle. But to answer your question its just like a car.Gearing, jetting, exhaust, head work, cams, pistons, turbo.Let me know if you have any specific questions. And remember atgatt, all the gear all the time.
Tires are a big thing on a bike also.

Not to be a perv but there isnt much better than a good looking girl on a bike.

That definitely sucks-sorry to hear it! One of my friends had his bike stolen in the middle of the night too. He had a couple thick chains holding the bike to a large pole...when the thief/thieves couldn't get through the chains, they tried to snap them by pulling with a truck...needless to say, my friend came outside to find pieces of his bike strewn down the highway...

There isn't much to say thats not already stated. But the first thing you need to do it ride the bike and get comfortable with the way it accelerates, brakes, and handles. Because not all bikes ride the same. Also, get some good gear to wear, nothing like protecting your self as much as possible. A lot of dumb drivers out there that don't pay attention to bikes

Taking a MSF class would be a very smart move.Even experianced riders learn some at them.

Highway pegs and 16" over springer front end outta show 'em you mean bidness!
Does it really have "ZX-10" painted on the seat, or is that photoshopped to make the picture look gay?

I hope you enjoy the bike. You are a lucky man.

I had an '88 Zx10 while stationed in Germany. Compared to any car, this bike is quick. Unless you are a very experienced rider, the bike is going to be way quicker than you are. That said, in order I'd do it:

If the current chain and sprockets are in good shape, simply drop a tooth on the front. If it's time to replace the chain, go for a 525 conversion, and add 2 teeth to the rear and drop 1 tooth on the front! These things are geared way tall for the street, but still pull to almost 175mph on the top.

Next, a good 4 into 1 header and tune.

    Good luck, and be safe!
