Well, if this is the bs thread, I'll start a topic for debate/discussion.
What are main reasons you wouldn't vote for a car? Be it a stock appearance, if there's certain backgrounds/lighting that you find more attractive than others, specific angles, etc. This will help people when they take pics for submission. I personally like aggressive stances, wheels turned, and bright, but not too bright lighting. Any other suggestions fellas?

EVERYTHING is a factor. the subject being photographed, the setting in which it is. lighting is very critical, as it will either flatten/wash the car out out (bright), or drown out detail/reflections (dark). you need to find the right proportions of the subject and the environment in which it is in.
believe it or not, you can manipulate the light you have, but that comes into the placement and angle of taking the picture. digital cameras are very forgiving for the novice to average phototaker, so i would encourage all to go out and explore different shots at different angles/heights, etc. our eyes see things and pick up things a camera never will. the trick is to make the camera see what we do and capture it...
one needs to ask yourself: whats the selling point of this pic...? what are you trying to emphasize in that shot...? what is it that you are wanting to be seen...?
i cant speak for everyone, but i hold a critical eye (curse of my profession, as i look for detail, depth, richness). one can have a show car (good for you), but if one cant take a picture that reflects this, it's not getting my vote. i dont care what mods are done to the car, because a picture cant tell you a car has a cam, a 9" rear end, or a kickass stereo in it. the photo of your car should capture the essence of the car and its environment together. for example taking a pic of your car with a LITTLE CEASARS pizza sign in the background, is a FAIL!!!
there are shots im still dying to take with my car. i just havent gone out to explore the ideas that i have. its about being creative and putting thought into the pictures you take...

look at +----- in cotm.... what could be done to improve that picture?
very minimal shadowing, like most entries seem to have.
car is clean, buffed, waxed everything full detail.
t-tops are out.
I think the only thing against it is that the backdrop is so bland?
any tips guys?Last edited by Getzen_Guy; 02-05-2008 at 07:30 AM.

Sure, I'll give that 'guy' a few tips. Car looks dirty, tires are filthy, not a big fan of the light covers...at all. I've never liked ground effects on a Z, wheels need to be turned and give the car a better stance, can't do much about the background seeing as it is winter and everything is dead, but if everything was green and fresh, that could work as a back-drop. A different angle with a better stance, my 2 cents. There ya go, GG.

see i thouht the car looked a littl dirty too... I think it's all the damn dirt around it...
the tires do look bad but my tires were wet when I pulled to that spot, so i guess that's the deal on that...
I guess i'll need an updated pic for next month.
whistler mod, ss hood, billet grille.
thanks for the tips man!

Getzen, as stated by you and FAB, the car looks dirty and loks like the pic was taken in the middle of the day. it came out as an over-exposed shot. rip out the front camaro grill, and get a polish and wax job on the car for next month and you should be good to go. stick to shots on pavement, unless you have access to a beach...
