    I can see where you chopped in the lights...and it takes away from the shot.
    True HDR may have worked out there....rather than copying and pasting in parts of the picture from 6-7 different shots.

    Key to HDR is not overprocessing it, and making sure all the exposures line up perfectly.

    i'm not sure that what I'm doing is much different than HDR, other than being more selective about which items i choose to present.

    Well....HDR blends 3 different exposures of the exact same picture.
    Bringing out shadows and blown out areas of the shot.

    HDR = modern version of Ansl Adams. That guy could take one shot and develop it into the fullest clearity

    Some people like HDR.
    Some people don't.

    A lot of people overprocess their HDR shots (which is why true photographers hate PhotoMatix), or use HDR when it isn't needed.
    It is a tool. When parts of your picture are too dark or too blown, you can use it.

    Me....I use it to learn it.
