2002 Trans Am WS6 Black to Kandy Copper
Here are some of the nearly 200 pics that my buddy, who painted the car, took for during the whole process. I was there for about 90% of the job(had at least 7 all-nighters) and helped wet sand remove panels and other easy tasks. I learned a lot just from being there so much and watching the order in which he did the tasks for prep and paint.
Here is how it looked when before we got started:
Lifting the car off the ground and removing wheels, rear tail lights, side view mirrors, headlamp covers, front license plate cover and rear spoiler.
Taped up and scuffed:

Here's some primered pics:
We were going to paint the sail panel Kandy Copper also, but after visualizing a last minute suggestion by a good friend, who IMO is one of the best LSX based builder/tuner in NW Florida.
Here's a few pics of the sail panel:

Ok, here's the Metallic Copper basecoat. Even after being warned by the paint shop employee to not freak out about the tint of the basecoat, we were like WTF, until we mixed it and turned really metallic. I know it looks gold, but it was so metallic that light reflected nicely off of it.
Here are some pics of the basecoat. We had to do the door and trunk jambs.

Now comes the Kandy Copper. A maple pearl was mixed in, which compliments this Kandy Copper extremely well. The maple pearl is really noticeable under direct sunlight because of all of the edges on the car, especially the hood, for the light to hit.We used 5 quarts and sprayed 8 coats of Kandy. Notice how the more coats of Kandy Copper sprayed, the darker it gets.
The white stuff you see on the car on the last few pics is 3M Perfec-it III cutting compound that had not been wiped off yet. Even though the pics near the end look shiny, that's the 4 coats of clear. The car wasn't polished yet in any of these pics. I have some under hood pics that show some of his painting and airbrush work but we've decided to leave the engine bay black for now. We're doing the engine bay when I finish my ls2 402 build and we pull this engine.

My buddy wanted to pull out his 8 pc airbrush guns and I told him that he could do whatever he wanted to the underside of the hood. He candied a skull right next to the hood latch, used the brushed aluminum with three dimensional rivets on the recesses of the underside of the hood and two more skulls on lower recesses of the hood's underside.
Here is a pic of the car in an industrial park:
I know it's not the most beautiful background but I've got some pics that have both beautiful car and background that I may enter into COTM.

Thanks guys. I remember that we weren't planning on doing anything under the hood until my 402 was built and we pulled my stock longblock(which was one of the 02's that received the ls6 block from the factory). That was until around 6:30 in the morning and we were taking a break from reassembling the removed parts (headlamp covers, rear taillights, etc...). My buddy and I were sitting in some office chairs taking a break from another all-nighters and he saw his case for his airbrush kit that he ordered when we were going to do a true fire paintjob . He sat and thought for about 5 minutes and asked if I'd let him do some airbrushing under the hood. I didn't even ask him what his plans were, I just said go for it. It's just temporary because we're going to re-paint the underside of the hood when we spray the engine bay. We were talking about doing a Kandy true fire design. It's still up in the air for the moment. I'm trying to decide what size wheels I want. I'm about to switch from Eibach sportlines to Strano springs. Right now they're 18x9.5's & 18x10.5's. I'm debating on 18x8-9.5's & 18x10.5-11's or 19x11's. Also deciding on painting whole barrel Kandy Copper and black face or black barrel and Kandy Copper face.
