1939 with a 6.0 LQ4
Here's my 1939 Chevy with an LQ4 6.0 engine from a van, with the 4L80E trans and 12 bolt w/3.55 gears. Stilll ironing out the details but it's a nice cruiser and quick, too. We added headers and "tweeked" the 'puter for 375-400 hp, I'd guess. It's a bit snug in this pointed front frame. Had to notch it on the right side to keep the low mount A/C compressor. That seems like a "must" because the hood narrows toward the front as well, effectively eliminating a "top" mount. Transmission still "hunts" for a gear at very light throttle pressue at slow speeds, but otherwise it's great!!
Thanks to several who helped on this board!!

Looking good man! Time to throw a ls6/ls1 intake on that thing to get rid of that chunk!

Intake
That's a good one for sure, but my research indicates that the stock truck intake is a really good one for torque and not bad for H.P..... Since I'm planning on pulling my Harley with it while being loaded with four adults, I'm not planing on getting rid of it until something better comes along...
Appreciate the input though.

Get a different intake on that engine. Nice setup you have going on there.
370 CI - Twin 6766 Turbo - Jakes stage 5 4L80E - MWC 9" - Holley Dominator
Build in progress...

Stock 317 heads? If so, Milling them would help alot. The LQ4's are a low compression engine. 9.4. They really need a boost in compression.

Very Very NICE! I bet it's a joy to cruise too. You could probably have the trany reprogramed to get rid of the gear "hunt" too. Aswell as there are some "stand alone" trany controllers also for the trany you're runnin'. Just a thought.. .
Ps. Alot of the parts in your trany are interchangable with the th400 too!Last edited by Smittro; 04-13-2009 at 04:22 PM.

Lotsa folks think I should change the intake, but I really like the torque....Would it hurt torque to go an LS1/LS6 type intake? I like using regular gas too....Also having trouble finding help reprogramming the trans.....Anyone know of someone in South florida?
Thanks for the input!

Nice car !!! Thinking about an L33 for mine. A few questions, if I may... MII IFS and electric fans in front? Did you have to notch the frame or just the side panels to clear the AC ? Lastly, what did you use for the oil pan.
Regards,
Tom
