a turbo 3.8 puts down about 300 hp and 400 lbs of torque to the wheels.

Installed on the L36 3.8L non-supercharged engine (found on Grand Prix GT, Monte Carlos, etc.) Cartuning Performance claims the kit makes 280 at the wheels and over 300 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels, although on the dyno it actually produced 296hp and over 400 ft/lbs at the wheels on a completely stock car with an open down pipe. The standard turbo is suitable for those that want to bolt a turbo kit to a stock car that has no modifications done to it and wants a really fun daily driver.
thats from PFYC.com. its not meant for an fbody, but it shows the potential

My son and I coach high performance driving on racetracks in CA and find the balance of the V6 mid front engine (all engine behind front axles) is superior to the V8. The V8 has more top end power but exit speed is faster with the V6. Our coevette rims, 1LE suspension and solid 32MM front sway allow corner speeds to be very close to the Corvette that my son owns.

okay i dunno this thats why im gonna ask,,

but how much more does the ls1 weigh compared to a iron blocked v6,

and secondly the ls1 has more than just top end power over the 6 it has more power period across all rpm range and torque,

i would bet that all the weight you save by having a 6 doesnt mean shit on a race track with a v8 camaro, your 6 would get dusted every time,

you have to decide between drag racing and round course, where weight distribution plays a key role in cornering ability.

The 3.4 shortblock weighs 280lbs with no water pump or flywheel (everything else included.

The iron head top end weighs over 80lbs, but the FWD all aluminum top end weighs just over 30.

Here is a dyno sheet from a N/A 3500 (3.5l) 60 degree V6 with a rough tune (obvious with the spikes)...

It's running mid to high 13's in a Cavalier.

thats a pretty good amount of power for a v6, to the wheels, now how much work was needed to achieve this much???

Uped the compression to 10:1, big cam, big TB, valvetrain upgrade, porting/polishing, chamber polishing, longtubes and tuning.

I'm building a similar top end to go on a 3.4 block, but will have .1l less (and 1.5 more points of CR ). My numbers should be close to his, but in my Firebird - should be faster (RWD).

If I had a v6 I think I would do the same things that Sarge did to the v6. Then if I still wasnt happy id put some juice in it.

I had a friend that had a 04 GTP with a Cartuning turbo T-62 IIRC he put down 380 WHP at 12# of boost on a stock engine. That would be nice in an Fbody. It ran mid 11's with poor traction in his GP. So if I had away of picking up a cheap camaro 3800 this to me would be a good way to go vs a LS1 swap. although it would probably cost a pretty penny.

To bad doing all that would cost more than trading the v6 fbod in on a ls1 and getting the ls1 in 11s

That's what I was hinting at when I said it would be costly.

I bought the 3500 top end for $300. It will push my 3.4 faster then a stock LT1 - how's that expensive?

First tubo kit I made for the car cost me <$800 in parts, and would beat 350TPI's.

Once the turbo is back on it (and some suspension under it, lol), it should be an 11sec car.

IF we can make a 3.4 that fast, imagine what we could do to an LSx
    3.4/3500 Twin Turbo almost complete
I have CNC machines, contact me if you need something. 3500 top ends available.

have you beat anymore Lt1s yet? I remember you talking about beating a all stock a4 z28 conv.

Russel did, not me. Mine is a newer designed head, and manifolds from a 3500, all ported and polished, polished combustion chambers, 11.5:1 compression, big cam and long headers - all tuned with MegaSquirt. The only other similar top end is in a Cavalier making 270hp 291tq on a full 3500 swap.

Never got to race an LT1 with the turbo kit on there. The turbo was on a stock 3.1 iron head, and was a little quicker then a stock 350TPI. Can't wait to see the new motor with boost.

Nothing like spinning through the 330' mark....

It was fairly expensive for him ~$4-5K IIRC.

You'd probably spend that much going from a V6 to V8, depending on current prices...to get 11s would be a little more, except maybe Nitrous.

Ouch I didn't realize it was that much, but I guess if I added up my mods I'm right up ther and a second slower. Turbo FTW!!!

I could always add a turbo to my current set up.
