weight savings

    LT's came with 16's, but if you wanted to get big brakes you would need 17's to clear them. only thing i would do in your position is get an LS1 brake upgrade for cheap. buy it used on ebay or somethin, it comes with spindles and calipers. LS f-bodies came w/ dual piston calipers and larger rotors. you can get a cheap set of cross drilled and slotted for less than 2 hundred. you can fit 16's unless you get big brakes but i would still get 17's to decrease sidewall height.

    I didn't know that the 98+ f-bodies had bigger brakes though... May be worth looking into. So as long as there was a low profile 16" tire, this would ideally be the better setup, correct?

    correct, but it may look a little funky cuz of how small they would be.

    and the brake swap is definately worth doing. the fact LT brakes are super beat. i'd only spend money on front conversion though.

    Sounds good, kinda what I was thinking too... rears aren't ever terribly useful
