top strut bolt rusted and crumbeling

Top strut bolt is rusted and crumbeling, I put a socked on it but it just fell to pices but the threads are holding. Ideas on how to get the top bracket off?

I may just take it to a suspension place and have them do it. I didn't think washing under the hood hurt anything but I think water was getting in there and pooling around the nut.

you mean the nut from the shock right? very typical. water gets in there from driving in the rain. i've had to torch them off. so, taking it somewhere and letting them deal with it is a good idea.

I used an impact wrent and took me about 1/2 per strut. Was a big pain, If you can't get an impat to grab then you can try cutting the shaft with a saw. Make sure that the spring is welll compressed so it doesn't jump at you when you cut it. Mine where rusted a bit again and I did this 3 montsh ago!

    Good Luck

what you do is fill that area with grease. that way no water can get in there and sit.
