    Question Shocks limited funds

Well I need to replace my shocks and my funds are depleted due to other upgrades.I have narrowed it down to inexpensive and want to know which is better of the two. KYB Gas-A-Just, or Monroe Sensa-Trac?

    Hi Richard.

I ran KYB Gas-A-Just a few thousand laps on my local paved oval. Heavy car, demanding conditions. Not sure about the Monroes but I'll throw one vote in for the KYB's.

    +1 for KYB's

Although I have not used them I gave them a vote based on the fact that when I was shopping for shocks I looked into them and they have more positive than negative reviews. Also on other vehicles they get great reviews especially on lowered cars. So if others here havent had bad opinions about them as well as other car enthusiasts then they get my vote. I plan on buying a set as soon as I get the cash for a full set.

Some have said KYB's are'nt very good on 4th gen f-body but I've only seen one negative opinion in the past couple years.

I ran KYB's on my project car (gen-1 z34) before it was a project, I will be running them again to round out the suspension upgrades.

I never had any trouble with them, and I liked them better than some other brands I've tried on various cars over the years.

Of the two choices, KYB would be my choice. Monroe aren't much better than the factory Dephi shocks.
You'd be better off spending a little more for some SLP Bilsteins.

I thought the factory shocks were French DeCarbons?

All of mine have said Delphi.

The hydraulic shock absorber was invented in 1953, by Christian Bourcier de Carbon. Delphi gained control of the entire De Carbon Company in 1997.

Either way KYB is way better than stock, even Monroe would be better. My bottom dollar would go to KYB since they have a decent rep and do well with lowered cars. Of course if I'm gonna spend my tax refund on some quality shocks and springs then it's Koni/Strano all they way, or even coilovers on all 4. Tokico might be a good route but I haven't seen much use around here and haven't come across any reviews on F-Bodies. They are about the same price tag as the KYB's and some ebay stores have them cheaper.

These are part of a set of "Take Off" parts I bought in 2001 from SLP. I bought a set of wheels, tires, shocks, and springs for about $500.
The shocks are identical to the ones I removed when I installed my Bilsteins.

I currently have monroe on the car for about 100,000 miles and the front were always pretty good but the back end on theses cars hits like a rock. The KYB Gas-a-Just is a mono tube and the GSX is A Twin Tube with adjustments, I think i will pick these up in a few weeks. I'm having my hood painted and front bumper cover also and replacing the fenders with some that I bought that look like New NBM so i will be doing everything at one time it makes it a lot easier.

I've got SLP Bilsteins and Strano springs going on in about two weeks. Got the Bilsteins, waiting on Strano shipment. I've been told that the Koni's are the best but waaayyy to rich for my pocket.

Bilstein/SLP spring pkg was $611.99 from ws6store.com,compared to $530 just for shocks from another vendor,so I feel I got the best shocks for the money, konis are too rich for me too

I think the reason the rear hits so hard is because the rear trailing arms have different sized holes than the holes that are in the frame. (One of the things i plan on changing.)
