Exclamation Need suspension Stock vs Aftermarket?

My cousin has a 97 ws6 with over 100k mi and he is looking into replacing the suspension. He asked the guys over from summit racing and the guy that responded to his question pretty much told him Pontiac did a good job with the suspension on the ws6 package and that he should pretty much just replace it with gm parts. They also told him that no one really makes a suspension kit for the ws6 which seems kind of odd to me but then again im a gto owner so i really wouldnt know. He pretty much wants to replace the whole suspension. I want to know if he should replace it with stock parts or aftermarket parts and what aftermarket company makes a good package if there is one. I searched and couldnt find the answer i was looking for so i'd appreciate it if you guys helped. Thanks in advance.

Sam Strano (A sponsor) has some pretty good deals on KYB adjustable shocks and struts.
and that is BS that no one makes aftermarket suspension, there are plenty of companies.

You can call that guy at Summit back and tell him he's an Idiot

I'm currently running Strano Springs, Strano 35/22 Swaybars and Koni Single Adjustables and my car is way beyond a stock WS6.

If your buddy does only one thing make sure he gets quality dampers because they will make the biggest difference in ride and handling for these cars.

Yea that's what i thought, it was hard to believe no one offered a suspension package for these cars especially because of how popular the are. Idk what the hell that dude from summit was talking about So what do you guys recommend he get considering it's not his daily driver anymore so im sure he can put up with a stiff set up. Its pretty much his weekend warrior so he doesnt do no autox or anything like that. Thanks again fellas

#1: quality shocks(Bilstein, Koni SA's, Edelbrock IAS), #2: front spring/shock upper mounts, #3:new ball joints & tie rod ends, #4: front LCA bushings(OEM) & possible UCA bushings, #5: Sway bar bushings & end links (Urethane), #6: trans mount(OEM, or urethane) & TA bushing (urethane), #7:rod/poly adjustable PHB, #8 Rear LCAs (J&M w/3pc polyball).

I don't know your/his ride height preferences are so here's a few suggestions.
    OEM springs, or Strano(-1.2"), Hotchkis(-1"), SLP lvl 2(-.5") .

Stock WS-6 handling is not good (meaning by european standard, im from Sweden), I had the opportunity to drive a stock 2001 WS-6 a month ago and that was a good attention getter why i modified and upgraded my WS-6. Yes car is rockhard, noisy but it goes like hell on winding roads, it will definitely give a match to hi-performance Audi, Bmw or some Jap sport car. I am very pleased with my WS-6 how she handles now. I LOVE MY TRANS AM.

You should remove those rear bump stop spacers, our cars don't have a lot of suspension travel after being lowered, and that 1/2" of suspension travel is noticeable.

Just make sure you know what you're willing/not willing to sacrifice (ground clearance, ride quality, etc...) before you make a purchase. And don't let yourself feel rushed to make a choice, take in all the info you feel you need.
