Monroe strut one part left
Hi all
I want lowering my Camaro and i want also replace my Shockabsorbers. So i boght a set shocks from Monroe and a new set of mountingplates. But know i have saw the struts hasn't the springplate, the part that hold the Coil (under). I guess its the lower spring seat, but there are some aftermarketparts available. Has everyone the same MONROE Part # 71290 Sensa trac and what you use?
My Camaro has now orange shockabsorbers its possible they are even first from GM. Are the lower spring seat from these shocks removeable and useable for the monroe shocks?
Thanks

Just take the one off the old set and re used. That is what I did. No Issues. You will have to tap assist it. Don't go nuts just tap it off till.

take a pic and post so that I can see exactly what your talking about.
When I replaced my struts and springs a couple months ago all I had to do was change the retaining plates and mounting hardware that was on one to the other. The hardest part was finding the sweet spot to put the spring compressors in order to be able to compress the spring enough. The other was trying to get the rusted nut off the old strut. I ended up have to chisel it off.

I got the Monroes last year, you have to buy the Spring Seat , it cost extra and slip it over the shock until it sits on that ring. I had to pound mine down a little with a hammer.

I had the same problem this last weekend. I went with Bilstiens but the original spring seat would not come off. Had to get them from Carquest. It was a pain.

Damn i hate rockauto. I bought the shocks on 2 February and there was only one shock from monroe available for my camaro (71290) . I have the right set at the airport miami, they stoled my shocks because there are not safe for passengers aircraft . Now i have the wrong... Hmm is there a option to get only the spring seat?
And they aren't cheap, it costs the same as the 71262 (now available)

You can buy just the spring seat at Oreillys, I think mine was around 12 bucks.

No sorry, I went back to Oreillys once I realized it was missing and they looked it up. 904962 looks correct, according to the picture they include the isolator rubber piece which sits inside the spring seat.
