lowering springs w/stock shocks??
Is it a NO-NO to run aftermarket springs with stock shocks?? springs that give 1.4-5 in drop?
and will the car havta be aligned? and will the tires wear different or will they sit the way they did before?
I want my car to sit a LITTLE bit lower, yet i dont have much to spend (im looking @ the g2 hyperco springs in FS forum.....

yes, you'll have to get an alignment. when i dropped my 91 rs, i didn't get new shocks. we'll , i had monore sensatrac shocks and struts, but i didn't get the "high speed low drag" drop shocks. and i never had any problems.
but being that our front ends are coilovers, you have to remove the strut inorder to put the springs in so yes. you will most definately need an alignment.

I'm running the Eibach Pro-Kit with stock shocks. Yeah you'll need to get an alignment, but the tires are wearing perfectly.

yeah my front shocks are okay but the back are getting excessive rebound. I'm thinking about replacing them with Bilstein HD's

I will be going with one of two set-ups.
1. Keep the ProKit and get revalved Bilsteins.
2. BMR springs and Bilsteins.

I have the BMRs and Keeps You Bouncing shocks, I love the way it sits. One of these days I will be swapping shocks out though.

im hesitent on lowering my car because my friend bought his 97 z28 w/ebaich shocks & springs installed, its def. dropped like 4" lower than stock, i mean his air dam ALMOST rubs the pavement--it looks SWEET but he grounds out all the time and i dont want that. His car corners AWSOME but nosedives on braking...
Mebbe i will wait to lower it & align when i get new tires (but that will be awhile, i got new htrz's and they are holding up good!!

Eibach makes two different lowering kits for our cars. the Eibach pro-kit which I have is a mild drop of 1.2 to around 1.75 inches and the Eibach Sport line is a more drastic drop anywhere from 1.75 to 2.5 inches. This one unless you have perfect roads in my opinion is mainly for auto cross and the strip.
You'll have to be careful of your roads with both sets though cause our cars sit low as it is. My ORY is about 3 inches off the ground as it is now.

You guys need to pick springs based on spring rates not on manufacturer’s brand names.
It is not all about the drop it is about the lbs rates.
Everyone should try to stay away from progressive springs as the dampers (shocks) can deal with the changing rates of progressive springs.
If it says 310-550lbs (or similar) stay away from them...

i just picked up a set of Eibach Pro Kit LT1 springs for cheap, new, never installed for the SS. I talked to Strano and he said Bilstien HD's would make you burst a kidney. He said go with my revalved Bilstiens (even though he's out of stock and doesnt know when he will get anymore).
I rode w/DJ to Ennis friday night and he has the Eibach Pro Kit LS1 with Bilstien HD's and the car solid IMO, and not too jarring of a ride. Im thinking I might just do the HD's and call it a day, although if i just reuse the shockers like some of you others are, I can get away with doing so for a while considering how much I dont drive the car...

I think I am going to go with BMR springs. Touch softer and a small bit higher.
I don't road race my car, so I am trying to find a good mix of drag/street performance. ProKit stance looks GREAT and it handles very nicely, but they are stiff and make the car hard to launch.

What are the spring rates for the BMR? I need to figure out which springs I'll eventually go with.

Our cars are fairly nose heavy and really like a spring rate of 500-600lbs in the front.
Not much weight in the back so most run between 150-200lbs in the rear.
This is a good street/auto-X set up. The drag racers like much softer springs for launch weight transfer.
This is my opinion of course.
I wanted to say something about the springs you were dealing on in the for sale section but I knew you would research it before you paid the money!
