EBC brake pad install question
I found this same question on LS1tech and no one answered. I am hoping I have better luck over here
I just bought some EBC green stuff pads, and after reading the installation instructions I'm a bit confused.
"These brake pads are not fitted with original anti rattle shims, Please do not attempt to fit shims from worn pads onto these units which will cause an over-thickness situation resulting in pad drag".
The pads did not come with the metal guides that the pad sits in. Does this mean not to use the old metal hardware that normally comes with new brake pads, or get new metal hardware? I do not feel comfortable installing the pads without new metal guides

what metal guides are you talking about? The shims they're talking about are real thin pieces of metal that attach the backs of the pads. Have a picture of the pad? Are you talking about the aluminum clips that fit down into the caliper and bracket and then the pad rides on those? If so, reuse those.

There are steel inserts on the top and bottom of the caliper bracket that should be re-installed. This is simply where the tabs at each end of your brake backing plate ride.
The anti-squeal plates clip to the back of the brake pads and provide a cushion to prevent movement and noise. They do increase the overall "thickness" of the installed brakes, and this could result in heating up of the brakes. As stated in the instructions, there may not be sufficient clearance fo the rotor. Obviously, once the brakes have worn down a bit you could re-install them if you have a noise issue.

ok I got it all installed. I am still in the break-in period of the pads, but I can already tell it stops better.

nope. mine are quiet for the most part. they squeak a little at low speeds once in a while, but im still breaking in the pads. I found I had a rusted caliper pin that was stuck when I was installing the pads and rotors, but I lubed them up pretty good and made sure everything was moving smoothly.

Thanks for posting
say are those rotors EBC as well ?
They look nice
Also it's good to know who sends out a complete kit
I don't like the fact that they did not provide you with new retainers
I think I'm going to do Hawk pads on mine
Just for the simple Fact that I have read so many good reviews
on their pads

no I went with Rotoworks Rotors. honestly I cant tell you why I went with those. I just read a couple good reviews on them. I really like them so far, but I havent really put them to through a real test yet.
I almost bought the hawk pads, but went with these instead.
