    Bump Stops

I put new wheels on my 2000 Camaro SS and noticed that one of the bump stops are totally rusted. Where could I find a good set of new rear bump stops and how much. Thanks

They are very hard to find OEM. There are some out there but they are really expensive. You can either get some used ones from a junk yard or use the ones from Energy Suspension Part number 9.9137 . You have to grind off the base were they are going to sit at or get an adapter. I did the ES ones and I'm happy with them. It was pretty easy to install.

Yup. I just don't see myself paying that much for bump stops.

Stranos has them for $24 and Poly too. I believe they are for Jeeps but they will work on our F-bodies. It will require some work in getting them to work but not that difficult. I removed the 1/2 lip that hangs down and they fit perfectly. This vs $140 for bumps stops special made for F-bodies.

These two pics show factory bump stops (white) and the energy (jeep) bumpstops...the whites were new I ordered from gmpartsdirect.com and if you want them pm me, I took them off to put the poly, their in perfect condition. Will make you a good deal.

Sweet. I hate places like Hawks Third Gen. Trying to capitalize on parts that no longer exist. They got a few people with those bump stops for 115 dollars. People want original equip

What exactly do I have to do when I get Stranos bumps to fit. Im sure I'll probably order from Stranos and put it up to the old ones to compare and figure the modifications I have to perform. But to get an idea can you tell me exactly how someone has modified Stranos bump to fit

okay yeah I forgot about that, basically there is a metal flange on the car that curves down, making it impossible for the strano stops to bolt right on, you have to grind down the flange OR make a spacer using a lot of washers.

fyi, SLP mades spacers to fix this problem, but they are hard to find iirc..

is your car lowered? because if not, the bumpstops are unnecessary, unless (god-forbid) you do serious off roading in your F-body

Justin is correct in that you have to grind down the lip. It's not hard just takes a bit of time and a grinder. I recommend the grinder because it took a long time using a Dremel. Shoot a couple of shots of paint and then install the bump stops.

FYI, The SLP spacers also have a 1/2 lip so you would have to grind that down to if you plan on using them. I have a pair and said screw it. I might grind them down later because I now have 17" wheels and will need the spacer so help prevent tire rub.

the one on the right is the OEM bump stop. Notice how the base has an indentation. you just grind that portion off the the car to make it flat so the poly one (left) can fit on it.

Here is it installed. I spray some undercoating to protect the bare metal after grinding.

I think it will worse because the spacer puts the bump stop closer to the rear end. If your car hits the new bump stop because of the lowering springs you can trim off up to 1 inch of material.
