2 or 3 point SFC?

My car will be mostly a bolt on car and Im looking into some UMI SFC's. Im looking into to getting bolt ins then maybe weld them in down the road. My question is should i get the 2 or point ones. Is there much of a difference between the two? Im trying to upgrade things on my car since im on a smaller budget but if the 3 points make a huge difference I am willing to save up for that.

This doesn't answer your question but I went with the 3 point SFC's just because it seemed like they'd add a little more stability. The 3's will add more weight than the 2's if that's an issue.

3 point..but this depends on your needs for the car? if you run auto X etc...make sure that 3 points are allowed in your class etc

2pts are okay, but 3pts are better. I personally would only install 3 pts, due to they give support for front to back and side to side loads. Where 2 pts really just give front to back support.

3's are definitely more rigid, 2's cost less. Like anything it depends on your priority...

I dont auto x but I do take corners pretty fast and I like a very rigid car. I want to go bolt in. I just dont want any body flex or any more damage to rear quarter panel, etc. Is it a lot of weight like something I would notice a difference in? I dont take it to the track that much and its mostly a DD but the 3 points arent that much more and look like they provide a lot more stability/less flex

Ok, let me say here and now it's a myth that SFC's do anything to stop any rippling of the quarter panel. They don't attach anywhere near that area, and we have had cars dimple them after SFC's were installed. That is caused by wheelhop, nothing the SFC's do anything about. And if you don't believe me, watch a car with severe wheelhop closely sometime (in video is even better), you can watch the quarter flex an immense amount.

Drag racing is much harder on chassis in terms of twisting than cornering is. The car will not fall apart without connectors (I don't have any an I pull way more G's far more often than anyone else here). They've not been legal for me to run in my class until now. I will add them now that I can. I'm also likely going 2-pt tubular for the minimum weight gain since I know the car isn't going to break in half anyway...

Bottom line if your reason for SFC's is to maximize the rigidity, you go 3-pt. If you want it better, 2-pts are certainly better than nothing, and cheaper, and lighter. What's your preference?

ok so how much lighter is the 2pt compared to the 3pt??? every one is talking like the 3pt is about 100lbs heavier.

Gotta love the internet...

2-pts run about 28-30 depending on material
3-pts run about 50-54 depending on material

That's total for a pair. 26 pounds is the biggest difference between a Chrome-Moly 2pt, and a mild steel 3pt. Far, FAR, *FAR* from 100 pounds heavier. A pair of 3pts don't even weigh 100 pounds (or close to it), it'd be impossible for them to add 100 pounds over some other connector.

Yes I have been on your site and once I purchase my ford 9" and I get my car out Im lookin at that Chassis stiffening package #2. God I cant wait for winter to end. First winter with the TA and its terrible to just let her sit in the cold.

Its not snowing right now but its cold as hell. But i wouldnt be drivin the TA even if it was nice because of the broken diff. lol fail

I don't know how you guys do it with your cars and d/d winter cars.

I had to drive my car from my dad's house to my house last winter in the snow and it was hell and it was only 4 miles. I have a beater truck I bought for 900 bucks for the winter months

It ain't like it doesn't snow here (and stick). I'm only about 80 miles SE of Lake Erie. Add to the fact I'm on the upslope of the mountains, and we get plenty of lack-effect and lake enhanced snow.

i was assuming you dont dd your maro in winter....i just added 200 pounds of sand in the back for traction..i wonder tho..that extra weight on the rear suspension..will that have any ill effect on it ?
