As far as a auto or 6 speed being better-its personal choice really. It really depends what your overall plan is for the car-as far as the mods you get. If I had 3 gs to spend here is my list:
1)Pacesetter coated race style headers
2) Pacesetter Y pipe
3) Magnaflow Cat back exhaust
4) MTI clear air lid
5) K@N air filter
6) Texas speed magic stick 4 cam 110 lsa
7) texas speed hardened chromemoly pushrods
8) comp cams springs
9) double roller timing set
10) ls6 ported oil pump
11) Parts installed
12) get the car tuned
** This would probably get you 80-100 HP

He could afford all that except "parts installed". Having some jackass mechanic install aftermarket parts costs you a lot. Plus they are all money grubbing con artist.

LOL ^ yeah I know what you mean BUT if you look hard enough there are actually a few decent mechanics that dont rob. My mech. said $800 to put all these parts on.

this post was for suspension/handling... i don't see the point on suggesting all mods for power.
Having said that, depending on the objectives of the car, there are a few thigns that are a must for handling... such as shocks + bars.
depending if you want to lower the car, you might want some springs too.
With 1000$, you can get your suspension dialed in, and can use the other 2000$ on better brakes + maybe some minor power adders.
I'd do:
suspension
brakes
only then start thinking about adding power... need to control the car and be able to stop it before adding power to it, imho.Eugenio_SS
almost stock triple-black 2000 SS convertible with 17x11s on all 4 w/ 315s at the track or on the street with 18x10.5s on all 4 w/ 315s: (1), (2)

as for which one is better, ie A4 vs M6... i'd say chose your poison.
It's fair to say that 1/4 mile crowd will prefer A4 for consistency, easier on rear-ends.
M6 are preffered for corner carvers, auto-x, road-racer style of crowd.
I rather control the gear the car is in @ all times, and control when to shift it... so personally, i prefer the M6... but that's my venom.
