Thread: What shifter?

What shifter?
Whats you're favorite shifter for your 6-speed?
Is there an improvement over the factory Hurst shifter on the ws6 TA's when going with an aftermarket one?
I'm thinking of buying the PRO 5.0 shifter but if its not going to be much better then the stock Hurst then I might just skip that mod.
Thanks

If you have a factory Hurst Shifter then you might want to look into just getting a Short stick. I know several people who have gone that route and were very happy.
I personally have a Hurst Billet Plus with the appropriate Lou's Short Stick and I love it.Craig

I have to Pro 5.0 with LSS (lous short stick) It's not too short and its very notchy/precise when you shift. I love it.

My wife and I have found the factory Hurst with the factory stick is perfect for us. I don't really care for the stick to be shorter than this as my elbow starts pounding the console and it's also a pain in the arse when you have a drink in the holder.
We tried the Hurst billet plus but just didn't like it so I sold that to someone here on the board. I did however like the longer stick that it came with.
Johnny is right though, if you want a shorter stick there is no need to buy one. It's very simple to cut and reweld your stock stick. I've done several for people. Although buying one isn't going to break the bank, they are around $30.
It's all about the feel you are looking for. I would recommend driving a few first. Surely there are enough of your Fbody buddies around willing to oblige.

Again I'm with 01TA,,,,I've driven a Pro 5.0 shifted car and didn't like it.
Honestly I didn't even mind the stock sloppy shifter my wifes 97 had. Tried the hurst billet and didn't like that either.
Her newest 4th gen edition has the factory Hurst and both of us love the feel of it.
If I have anything to complain about it's probably the transmission itself. I'm not a fan of the way a T56 feels, too damn notchy with any shifter.
It's all in what you are comfortable with.

Yep.... Go with what you know! But if you race, there is a potential for the missed shift with the hurst. And the possiblitly of over extending your shift linkage. Thats why the stops are so important. But over all, it all depends on your driving habits. I like the added insurance of the stops.

I like the pro5.0. The LSS is almost a bit to short, but works fine. The stock length is way to tall and I push buttons on my radio when I shift with it. The factory hurst was good other than being to tall and a bit mushy. I really like the stop bolts on the 5.0 seeing I don't have to worry about smashing the factory internal stops.
