weird gear noise

i have a 2000 camaro and i was driving down the road then all of a sudden i noticed that you could hear the gears and it progressed to get louder but u can hear all the gears moving and meshing together it dont matter if its in gear or neuteral u can hear everything any clues what it could be and why it would happen all of a sudden im gonna check the oil first thing tommorow

Everything sounds normal to me! My 98 Trans Am was doing to same then so I took a look into the rear end and there was no metal shavings or anything in the fluid. Is the sounds your hearing kinda like a loud whining noise? If so you have nothing to worry about trust me.

Check for a tear/ gap in the body boot around the shifter.

thank you guys for reply i took the car to the shop and i found out i ripped 3 of the teeth off the of the pinion.
