Do you have an aftermarket shifter with solid stops? If so, you may need to adjust your stop screws. They could be loose not allowing the shifter to go into gear all the way.

If you have the stock shifter, you may have worn gears, worn shaft, or worn shift fork/pads

Have you had this issue since the install of the shifter? Which shifter? The solid stop screws may need to be adjusted. If your solid stops are adjusted wrong, they could be stopping the shifter prematurely and not allowing the shifter to fully engage.

I would check this first as it is free

If that don't work, you could have something wrong with your transmission....Things to look for that could cause it to pop out of gear are: worn shaft, worn fork/pads, or a worn gear where it rides against the synchro

If you didn't have this problem before, and your stop screws are still tight and haven't loosened/moved, I am pretty certain you have transmission issues unfortunately

Someone else will chime in on this, but I've done enough research and reading about transmissions (not an expert by far) and this problem seems indicative of that. I broke my 3-4 synchro keys with only 12K miles on my car so that's when i started reading the ins and outs of the T56.
