Toyota Guy Looking for the right Six Speed MT
Hello Everyone,
My name is Nick I am a newb to this forum and somewhat a newb to the domestic world. Let me share my experience when looking for a six speed manual tranny for a project I have going "mating a T56 to a 2UZFE Tundra motor" I see that the T56 is in various applications, Vette, GTO, Viper, Trans Am CTS-V etc..... the list goes on forever. Now the problem is that the tranny design differs from one application to another, I am not just talking dimensions or bolt patterns I am talking about:
Vette T56 output shaft plugs directly into the diff "ewww thats ugly"
Internal vs. external slave cylinder
cable vs hydraulic type clutch
Gentlemen what I am looking for is a T56 off of an application that:
Must have the internal Slave Cylinder.
Not with the cable type clutch.
I am considering the T56 (M12) that is in the 2006 GTO
What about the Camaro is the T56 that is in those cars similar to the ones that are in the GTOs?
Vette T56 is out of the question!
Now which models and years do you guys fall under this category, basically the closest thing to a GM Aftermarked unit that is sold by say D&D or thesource.
Maybe this is a good thread to discuss the differences between the T56 that are in the different models?
Thanks in Advanced,
NickLast edited by rollexus; 07-18-2009 at 06:36 AM.

BLK/BLK w/CGM Stripes- 2010 Camaro 2SS/M6
you're looking at all the '98+ LS1 cars (internal/input shaft mounted slave) and the GTO's.
'93-97 LT1 cars had the slave alongside the trans and a fork actuating the clutch.

Main difference is that LS1 clutches push and LT1 clutches pull on the diaphragm springLast edited by Mean Green Z28; 07-17-2009 at 07:48 AM.

* Trannies with iInternal/input shaft mounted slave *
Thank you so much That Guy, Which of these cars have a proven T56 trans (nicest gear ratios (2.66 vs 2.97), smooth shifting, quality internals etc...) to offer:
* LS1 Tranny Applications
1998-2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, SS
1998-2002 Pontiac Firebird Formula, Trans Am
2004 Pontiac GTO
Am I missing any other possible tranny applications from these years?
* Would LS6 Tranny Applications have the same design?
2004-2005 Cadillac CTS V-Series
* What about LS2 ?
2005-2006 Pontiac GTO - I think has the same tranny as 2004 GTO
2006-2007 Cadillac CTS-V
Also looking at the T56 Magnum and TR6060, I heard that there are problems with the 2010 Camaro and the TR6060?
* Would LS3 Tranny Application have the same design (Think these are getting into the TR6060)?
2009-present Pontiac G8 GXP
2010 Chevrolet Camaro
Which tranny from these applications are you guys liking the most and why. More importantly which one would typically be the least beat up. Again I am only looking for internal input shaft and mounted slave trannies and non that plug directly into the diff such as the ones found in I am not sure which vettes.
Please and Thank You in Advanced,
Nick.Last edited by rollexus; 07-18-2009 at 02:54 PM.
