T-56 Transmission rebuild
I live in Northwest New Jersey, Sussex County. My 30k 02 SS just broke a 3-4 slider key and I need to have it rebuilt. Does anyone out there know a good, reliable shop who can do the complete job for a decent price. I am willing to go 50 miles or so for the right shop. This will also include Pike County, PA and Orange County, NY
Thanks in advance for all of your help.

I know of a shop very reasonably priced, if you can remove the tranny and ship it to them. If that's an option, let me know and I'll pm you the info. If not, Rich (CammedGoat) might be able to suggest a place.

I do not have a lift and being 51 years old I am beyond jack stands at this point of my life. Also, What is the cost of the average rebuild. The transmission is in great shape except for the 3-4 slider key. If I have to completely rebuild the trans I am thinking about a stage II kit from The Gearbox. Any thoughts ?

That's who did mine, although I upgraded to a stage 3. A buddy of mine did a stage 1, and he spent just over a grand with shipping. I would recommend them, they do great work.

Were you ever able to get the car out of 4th gear?

No, I pushed on it pretty hard but I did not go crazy on it. I drove at different speeds pushing all the way. Nothing, still stuck. When I got home I had My son help me push it backwards with the clutch in, then I released the clutch to see if I could dislodge the key. Nothing. I drove it into the garage and covered it until I know what I am going to do.

When I parked mine I rocked the car back and forth with one foot outside and the other foot pumping on the clutch in and out while pushing on the shifter hard. It finally gave and came out of 4th.
Note that after it released, I was able to drive the car again for months without an issue.
When I raced it again and shifted into 4th at WOT it got stuck again. This is when I had RPM transmissions rebuild it to their level IV specification, got a new aftermarket shifter, and a new Spec Stage 3+ clutch/flywheel.
No issues since.
