Twist like a Mofo. I got mine off with not much effort.

put it in gear then. we are talking about the shift KNOB right? not the shifter.

twist it as much as possible, then pull up on it rather hard.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but is't the shifter reverse thread pattern. Its been awhile since I took my knob off but it seems like I had to turn it the opposite way of what I thought I had to.

    Stock Hurst Knob

I replaced mine w/a Hurst pistol grip, the stock Hurst knob was very difficult to remove but it did come off after I put on some gloves and twisted really hard on it. If it won't come off with your hands you might wrap a cloth around the knob and try some channel locks while someone holds onto the stick with a padded pair of pliers or something. Obviously you don't want to trash the stock knob or stick so be careful. Another option is to remove the leather boot and take the stick off, which is very easy, and try to take the knob off out of the car.
