Reverse pushes against console..badly

going into reverse, the shifter pushes up against the console/plastic surrounding the shifter. enough that it pushes the console out of place a little. any ideas on why it does this?

Pull your leather boot and see if you still have 2 bolts where the shifter arm connects to the rest of the linkage. I had to tighten mine once when it was loose. Just an idea. John

Is the stick by any chance bolted to the wrong side of the stub?
